Me, taking part in the 2011 Tramore Hill Challenge
I have always enjoyed cycling and for the last several years Ive done a fair amount of it on the hills and roads around Co Waterford. Unlike a car, all the crucial workings of a bike are exposed to the elements and therefore my bike was in need of regular care and maintenance. Anyone who cycles regularly near the sea will be familiar with the devastation wreaked on a good bike by salt and grit, let alone normal wear and tear.

In 2010, I headed to Downland Cycles, Canterbury, Kent to successfully undertake the City and Guilds Level II Bike Mechanic Course, an advanced course aimed at students who wish to join the cycle industry, either as a mechanic or starting their own business. After finishing the course I set up a bike workshop in the garage beside my home and started my career as a bike mechanic, trading as TRAMORE CYCLE SERVICES. Within a short period of time I built up a significant number of customers. Not only did these customers return but more customers followed, based on word-of-mouth endorsement. When customer numbers could no longer be accommodated in my garage workshop, I moved to bigger premises in Sea-Point Business Park, Tramore, Co Waterford.

In autumn 2011 I returned to Downland Cycles, Canterbury to successfully complete the Professional Bike Mechanic Course (Level III, certified by Canterbury College).

My motivation is driven by a love of bikes but its my qualifications and technical skills which allows me to work on any bike problem, on any type of bike and which keeps my customers satisfied and happy with their bikes.
